Princeton Engagement | Kate and Andrew | Princeton, NJ

June 19th, 2010

Kate, Andrew and I met on the campus of TCNJ; the place they first met one another.  And the place they fell in love.   Not too many people carry their college loves through their adult lives but not only did they do that,  they also took school with them. Well, sort of. They are both teachers now working and living in the Princeton, NJ Area.  After spending an afternoon with them, I’m going to guess they are very much liked teachers too.  I enjoyed the entire session and well OK, it didn’t hurt that they are both absolutely gorgeous.

During my initial consult I usually recommend we do their engagement session in a place that is meaningful to them.  It can be a place they met, fell in love or where they spend a good deal of their time now building new memories.  For some people, this is not so easy.  I’ll be introducing you to such a couple in a coming post. This couple, though, it was easy.

In fact everything about them is easy going.  Maybe it’s the teacher in them.  I don’t know… But I will tell you Kate is on the ball and because of her attention to detail it’s truly a wedding I’m really looking forward to.  And yet, she makes it all look easy and stress free.  Yes, it must be the teacher thing.

They’ll be getting married next June at St Paul’s Catholic Church and their reception will be held at The Nassau Inn, both in Princeton, NJ.  It’s going to be an amazing affair with Kristin Rockhill of Details of I Do planning the affair.

For those who know me, you’ll know I get excited about things like dresses and shoes and stationary and well any other meaningful details.  Kate’s ideas get me excited for June 2011!

So, without further adieu… Meet Kate and Andrew…

Wedding | Tavistock Country Club, Haddonfield, NJ | Brittany and Marc

June 17th, 2010

To say I adore this couple is an understatement.

From the moment I met them on that freezing cold day last winter, I knew I would.  You get to learn a lot about people when you spend a few hours in that kind of climate. #1- Their lips turn blue when they are cold.  #2- They are not complainers and #2 – Marc can make anyone, even me,  laugh with just one look and #3 – They are both  genuinely kind, gracious and just plain fun to be around. I feel incredibly honored to have been included in their wedding day and touched by how warm their friends and family were.  From the Ever-Enjoyable Father of the Bride to the little boy who danced dangling from my leg, I honestly enjoyed every minute of it.

They were married at high noon at the beautiful Tavistock Country Club in Haddonfield, NJ.    Reverend (Dr) Marks  did the honors and it’s always so meaningful when the officiant has known one of them their whole life. That was the case with Brittany.  He  was good for a few laughs and tender moments too.  I asked Brittany which things were most meaningful for her when I was preparing to shoot her wedding and she said, “Our family, especially  those who we don’t often see in one place together.” It was amazing for me too.    There is no doubt where Brittany gets her good looks and amazingly infectious smile.

To Marc and Brittany,  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your beautiful love story.    I was truly touched by watching your grand parents together at your wedding and was left hopeful that one day you two will be dancing at your own grand daughter’s wedding.  They remind me of something I heard once about great love and how it never grows old.  Such a beautiful thing to see!

Wishing you great love….

A Soldier Comes Home | OpLove | Lifestyles Photographer

November 3rd, 2009

One of my favorite jobs to do is covering a soldier’s homecoming.

I’ve known this family for about a year now through the Operation Love Reunited organization; A volunteer organization of professional photographers giving their time to families of deployed soldiers. When I got the call that he was coming home, I knew that an end to a very long year for this family was finally coming to an end. The days turn to weeks and then into months and the oldest of the two boys seemed to be carrying the weight of that time away. Like his mom, he worried and as the day wore on, the happy facade began to wane to anxiety. He paced, needing his space and watching carefully in the direction he heard the soldiers might be coming. The time seemed endless to everyone, but to him, each time he heard “it’ll be soon” or “Daddy’s on his way” was becoming more and more worrying. The hours stretched out as the crowds were trying to be patient. The youngest felt the tension too.

As I looked about the crowd I realized that many of these very young children will be meeting their father for the first time. I saw mothers and fathers and brothers, uncles, sisters, and cousins. Every single one of those people have sacrificed a little bit of themselves when their soldier left. They stayed behind. They held up the fort. They carried on with the life these soldiers could come home to. In those hours they were all brought together for one reason; To set their eyes on their soldier. To know she was home safe.

This homecoming was the end of many soldier’s commitment to the Military. Some will go back. No one thought about that that day. No one complained about waiting in the heat. None of that mattered, as long as they could hold their soldier in their arms once again.

The wait was hard but we were reminded that war is harder and that some did not come home that day. “We find a way to be grateful that it was not one of our own,” I heard one woman say to another.

To all the families and soldiers who served with dignity, I salute you. To this beautiful family, thank you for letting me be a part of your story this past year. I am deeply touched by you all and feel blessed for knowing you.

Tiffany and Cody | Engagement | NJ Wedding Photographer

October 7th, 2009

Personal Note: As some of you may know, I have been working on some new changes here. The website is just part of those changes but that said, I really wanted to introduce you to the new look here, with something special to me. I love some of these images and it was important to me to kick this off right. So, to Dear Tiffany and Cody, thank you for being patient. I hope you enjoy these as your web gallery is being uploaded for you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every so often we hear a story about high school loves that withstand time and the tribulations that life sometimes throws at us. When you meet Tiffany and Cody you’re instantly aware of how deep their love is for one another and for how real and genuine they are to each other and even though the years of their youth are behind them, they still have that special something. It makes me believe there really is that one true love for each of us… and to believe some people are really lucky and find it early in life. I really and truly believe that is the case with this two.
I had SO much fun with this couple. We started at the place they met and actually got to go inside the high school building (who knew we’d be able to do that on a Sunday?) We found her locker… we sneaked into the stair well, we went to a park, splashed around in some water and then headed to the beach… but not without out stopping once or twice for my whimsical moments (soybeans anyone?)
I absolutely cannot wait until their wedding. They are as beautiful on the inside as they are outside!
A Lifestyles Portrait Session in Haddonfield
My new site is still work in progress so I’m going to have to make up for lost time after it’s published. If you’re seeing your own images appear here, check your email for Access Codes for your full gallery.
So, you see… apparently I really can’t wait for the new site. :-)
Now, I’d like to introduce you to Justin. About 10 hours after this session was completed, Justin, a lifelong resident of my home town of Haddonfield, moved to New York. The Big Apple. He’s now working for a non-profit that provides services to teenage girls who are hoping for a better life than the one they’ve come to know. He’s always known he was destined for public service of some kind, but when the offer for this position became available to him, he knew it was the right choice for him. We had an hour to run about town, in the rain, and make meaningful images of a guy who impressed me to no end. I can say, with all honesty, that my work here will not show you what a great young man he’s now become and how lucky the world is to have people like him in it.
In an hour I felt lucky for having gotten to know him. Thank you Justin… I’m sure you’re doing your family and your home town proud about now…
Mary and Zach’s Wedding Day Slideshow | NJ Wedding Photography
August 24th, 2009
From July… Instead of adding this to their old blog post and it getting buried, I thought I’d start a new post with only their slideshow. I’m still playing with slideshow options for my clients to view a selection of their images. This is from Animoto and I’m still a bit on the fence with them. I wish there was an option for “Less animation” but it’s pretty easy to use. Anyway, without further adieu…
