Bio

Since I was a small child, I loved stories about people, whether they spoke of romance, ordinary people overcoming great challenges or maybe  just a simple life told so well that I felt intrinsically  connected to the characters.

I love photographs the same way.

My own photographs are stories and how I connect with the world. I see light and shadows and emotion every time I close the shutter.

When I began photographing couples and focused on the story of love, I found something so extraordinarily beautiful about it. I knew love well, but I never found words eloquent enough to describe it. In fact, I prefer to never define love with words.

If someone asks me why I shoot weddings when there are so many other genres of photography that I love, I could answer them in so many different ways…

It is because of the 91-year-old grandfather who promised his granddaughter he would dance at her wedding and kept his promise.

…Or the little boy who curiously looked up toward the light in the church, while others bowed their heads in prayer.

… Or the moment the bride’s father sees her in her wedding dress and realizes what it all means with bittersweet tears in his eyes

…Or the moment the mother of the groom turns to her husband and through her joyful tears remembers their own vows

…Or the moment a groom sees the love of his life walking towards him and he loses all sense of space and time for that split second

…Or the moment he whispers something in her ear that no one else will ever know but her.

I love shooting weddings because two people vowing their love and commitment to one another is not only beautiful but also courageous. In fact, I think it’s one of the most extraordinary things people do.

Every day I am reminded how lucky I am to tell some of the most beautiful love stories I know.  Not only do I get to witness it, but also I get to watch it grow year after year as they raise families of their own.

Although photography is a craft that I work very hard at honing and developing, it is a gift.  A gift I received and one that I pass along to the people who inspire me.

Ready to laugh now? Here’s a true fact about me.   I originally wanted to be a war photojournalist.  It makes for pretty amusing jokes to those who know me well.

More random things about me…

I dream in color.

I laugh at 6 year olds jokes (and they’re the only ones I remember).

I’m passionate about living a full life.

I’m madly in love with my best friend.  We got married in Fiji in 2002.

I cherish family above everything else.

I’d go my whole life in bare feet if I could, but I admit a weakness for shoes.

I love the way babies smell.

I wear a Mickey Mouse watch.

I grew up on a modest horse farm. I danced ballet, went to Pony Club, dreamed big and had the fortune of growing up with parents who worked hard, loved life and taught me about honor.

I live in Haddonfield, NJ with my husband, 2 golden retrievers and cat.  My son just graduated from college and remains my biggest source of pride. He’s now fighting the good fight in Washington DC.
